Love Always - for Carmel

My eyes peel open to the morning splendour

Sunlight on the windowsill — heat, comfort in my bed

Then, your sweet voice, beautiful and tender

At seven years old, I’m exposed, unfurled

You sing songs of immaculate lyrics

I look up and meet the eyes of my world

I’m older now, a quiet wanderer

I’m wracked with doubt, afraid, adrift

Your love buoys me, always my sturdy anchor

I grow tall, brazen, the city needs its share

I’m foolhardy, a study in youth

Where has your son gone? How does he fare?

But when I am lost, it’s you that I find

Through the ardour of this modern life

Your love  is a fiery beacon, blazing with light

I’ve longed for nothing in all of my days

Unbounded support, infinite understanding

Truly, I have had your love, always

My Mother, the carer, my heart is aflame

For the most gracious soul I’ve ever known

You have my love, always

My two favourite women!
